At this point in the SLO County Travel Series, I hope you’ve been inspired to plan your next trip. Whether it’s to Cambria, Avila Beach, San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach or all of the above, you’ll have a great time. Visiting the local wineries is a must on any trip to the Central Coast, though, if you enjoy good wine. Many of the wineries offer space to have lunch, walk the grounds, take a tour, and indulge in a tasting.

The below list of San Luis Obispo County wineries comprises those I’ve visited and enjoy, for one reason or another, whether that’s great service and wine, a beautiful atmosphere or a combination of all of the above. Before we get into the list itself, here’s my disclosure:

I haven’t visited every single winery in SLO County. That would be impossible. I’m speaking from my personal tastes and experiences, and any omission is not meant to be taken as you shouldn’t visit a particular winery. On the contrary, I’m saying that from my experience, the list of wineries below won’t disappoint.

SLO County Wineries That Should Be on Your List

SummerWood Winery – I love SummerWood’s white wines, and I try to visit this winery’s tasting room every time I’m in the area. The grounds are lovely, and there’s an onsite inn if you want to stay in the heart of wine country.

Four Lanterns Winery – Four Lanterns Winery is a small, family owned place where you’ll have a great conversation, possibly with the owners, while you’re tasting. This is a winery I’ll support again and again.

Harmony Cellars – A boutique winery in a beautiful rural setting. A solid choice for your wine tasting adventure.

Eberle Winery – An estate vineyard in Paso Robles with a view of the Santa Lucia Mountains. Do you need another reason to visit?

JUSTIN – This popular brand of wine is popular for a reason – it’s good! Their cabernet is a must-try, and I’m betting you won’t be disappointed by this winery if you visit. 

Le Vigne Winery – I snagged my favorite wine opener here, but that aside, the man who hosted my tasting was one of the friendliest people I’ve encountered at a winery. I had a great experience at Le Vigne. They offer dining options too, so if you’re looking for a meal while you’re spending the day in wine country, you might try a tasting and a bite.

Zenaida Cellars – A 22-acre vineyard in the middle of all the action. A solid place to stop on your wine journey.

Tolosa Winery – Come for the pinot noir but stay for the scenery at Tolosa.

Alapay Cellars – This is a nice winery in Avila Beach where you’ll be welcomed in for a tasting. There’s also a cute gift shop onsite that I enjoyed.

Kelsey See Canyon Vineyards – I love this winery. It’s so unique to me in the world of wines. The winery staff is very nice and I always leave feeling good. Among other varieties, Kelsey See offers apple wines made from Kelsey See apples. And, there are peacocks roaming the grounds so there’s that too.

Sextant – A beautiful estate winery like you’d imagine in wine country. A nice experience and good wine.

Finally, don’t sleep on the area’s tasting rooms. All of the towns in San Luis Obispo County offer tasting rooms. I’d encourage you to explore them, as they offer a roundup of many wines found in the region. You can purchase the wines you like, and enjoy full glasses while lounging in the space.
